I want to tell you all a story about a boy named John.
You know how when your headlights burn out, and you say “I know which ones to get, I don’t need to look at the book”
…and you usually end up buying the wrong ones.
Well, this is one of those stories, with a twist you’ll never see coming.
John’s lowbeams burned out.
So he went to Canadian Tire and looked in their product book and saw that he needed to get part 9006ST to replace his low beams.
He bought them, brought them home, took out the old bulbs and tried to put in the new ones… but they didn’t fit!
The notches didn’t match.
“How the hell did I get the wrong ones” John exclaimed, “The book said to get these ones.”
So he went back to Canadian Tire, returned the bulbs and bought part 9005ST because the book said to get these for high beams… thinking maybe one bulb supports both high and low beam on the same bulb, and the previous ones he bought worked only on low beam.
So he bought these new bulbs, took them home, and replaced the old ones… They fit this time!
He turned his car on and turned on the lights, but the low beams still didn’t work.
“What the hell, is the wiring bad?” John asks. Then he tried the high beams… and the high beams were brighter than before.
“Wait” his dad said with a smirk on his face, “John get out of the car and look at this.”
So he got out of the car and looked at the lights.
“Oh crap” John said rather solemnly, “My high beams and low beams are different bulbs”
“You just replaced your high beams” said his dad, matter-of-factly, “You had the right bulbs the first time.”
The End
